Slate of municipal election events coming up

The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce is inviting citizens to participate in a series of municipal election events in advance of election day on Oct. 20.

The Town of Sexsmith will be hosted a forum on   Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Sexsmith Civic Centre. Community members are encouraged to submit questions for Sexsmith in advance through this link: tinyurl.com/98ehnkmc.

An all-candidate meet-and-greet will kick off the forum for the City of Grande Prairie on Thursday, Oct. 2 at the Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre in Northwestern Polytechnic. Citizens will have the opportunity to meet local candidates in the theatre lobby from 5 - 5:45 p.m. Doors to the theatre will open at 5:45 p.m. The forum for city council candidates will run from 6 – 8 p.m. The forum for mayoral candidates will run from 8:15 - 9:15 p.m. Residents are invited to submit questions for Grande Prairie in advance using this link: tinyurl.com/59c5amby.

Attendees may also submit written questions at these forums for possible presentation.

According to a Chamber news release, not all questions can be addressed due to time constraints. 

Questions must relate specifically to municipal-level government; those regarding provincial or federal policies will not be considered. These are free, public events. No registration is required — seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. 

The forums will be conducted in accordance with Municipal Election guidelines to ensure fairness, neutrality, and equal opportunity for all participating candidates.

Citizens will have an chance to connect with candidates for the County of Grande Prairie municipal election at a casual, meet-and-greet style open house hosted by the Chamber on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the foyer of Centre 2000. This is a chance to ask questions and learn more about candidates’ priorities in an informal setting. This is open to all and no registration required. 

Meanwhile, the Patterson Neighbourhood Association says it will host an all-candidates forum Oct. 4 at Alexander Forbes School from 2-4 p.m. 

The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre will host an election forum Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. 

Beaverlodge & District Chamber of Commerce is also planning a forum; details to come.
