There was dancing in the streets of Grande Prairie with the second annual Chariot Festival on Saturday. 

“This chariot festival is the celebration of diversity,” said Madhavee, an organizer of the event.

Chariot festivals are celebrated across the globe and have journeyed from the sacred Hindu city of Puri in India. 

“This rich tradition is so powerful that it symbolizes that divinity is not confined to boundaries; it is for everyone,” said Madhavee.

The chariot carries three deities, who are siblings: Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra. 

“The three divine siblings are three different colours; they represent different walks of life, so coming together and celebrating life,” she said. 

She said it's a beautiful way to celebrate life with music and dancing. 

As the parade made its way through the city’s downtown, fruits, juice, and delicacies were handed out to onlookers. 

Some patrons of the farmers market even joined the procession and danced in the street as it passed by.

“People are just coming together and enjoying the diversity we have in Canada and all over the world,” said Madhavee.

As the parade finished in Muskoseepi Park, a free vegetarian meal was given out, and live music and dancing entertained a crowd.
