The breadth and depth of the County of Grande Prairie’s 75th Anniversary celebrations Aug. 21-22 was unmatched. Brett Kissel, award-winning music artist, headlined the weekend with a concert Saturday night. It also included the Bluebird Dance Troupe, a Classic Car and Tractor Show at the TARA Centre … even a drone show. Descendants of homesteaders Alfred and Jane Brown — Sharon Annis (Brown), Des, Gary and Justin Brown - shared stories of the family farm and some of the changes that have happened over the last century. Meanwhile, Janice Lovejoy of Generations Readers Theatre shared the story of renowned local pioneer midwife and nurse Johanna “Aunt Jo” Haakstad, who delivered more than 3,100 babies in the South Peace in the early 1900s.
